Mind of Mush
It's fairly ridiculous that I haven't set up some sort of blog before now. I spend probably 8-10 hours per day online between work (departmental tech support / sys- / network-admin at a large university) and home. I am constantly bookmarking, digging, del.icio.us-ing, or emailing links to myself and my friends and relatives.
"Mind of mush" was a mocking statement from my childhood that was used whenever someone had no thoughts or personality of their own and just seemed to parrot whatever was popular at the time. Being extremely shy and wanting to fit in, I was guilty of this on many an occasion when I was too threatened to be myself and take a chance on people not liking what they saw. Despite often being the subject of the aforementioned ridicule, the term seemed to have some resonance and some humor and has stuck with me. It just seems like the perfect title for a blog, which is really just an organized form of pseudo-plagiarism and a forum to echo other people's thoughts and ideas, while adding just a little bit of your own... It's much safer and easier than actually being a journalist, reporter, or writer and actually having to come up with original material.
Hopefully this will be a place where I can list and comment on the interesting things I run into on a daily basis. I have no idea what form this will take--diary, true web log, or something else. I also have no real idea on the subject matter or whether any sort of coherent pattern or cohesion will emerge. My guess is that it will probably end up being political/philosophical with a heavy side-order of technology and sports.
